RON EDWARDS – MODEL MAKER PAR EXCELLENCE: 1934-2010

Thursday, June 17, 2010

I made a sad visit at the beginning of the month to Ron’s funeral. He worked for some thirty years for my father, initially as a draughtsman and then for many years as the most skilled modelmaker.

Ron had his own workshop in our old studio in Burnsall Street from where he produced miraculous models from sheets of plastic. They were beautiful, tactile and always an instant hit with clients who could hold them up, rotate them and imagine their boats in a few years time in a Mediterranean harbour. Often Ron would work with my father and decide to do one side of the hull in dark blue, and the other in white for an instant change in look.

We still have a wall of Ron’s models in our studio and they are the first things people see when they come in our door.
