FIAT 500 CLUB

Monday, December 13, 2010

Looking out my window last week at slush and ice, thoughts briefly turned to cars which might be particularly unsuitable for the recent weather.

It made me think of my Cinquecento which, earlier this year, I introduced socially to David Linley's one in the hope that they may get on.

Disconcertingly, the photo appears to make my 500 look three-quarter scale or, alternatively, I am seven feet tall.

David was quick to point out the deficiencies with my car - no front bumper roll bar, incorrect wing mirrors, to name a few. On the other hand, I have a better number plate, and a Connolly leather interior which he claimed was vulgar compared to his threadbare, two-tone vinyl scheme.

Pleasingly, his car then failed to start, and Mr Rowell assisted in moving it off the carriageway so it wouldn't cause an obstruction.

David has since advised that he spun his 500 in the snow. This is either foolhardy or demonstrates a poor selection of vehicle for the conditions.
